Aristocrat Leisure faces class action over alleged gambling law breaches in Australia

Aristocrat Leisure, a gaming company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, is facing a class-action lawsuit in Australia. The legal claim accuses the firm of breaching gambling laws through its popular social casino games, including Heart of Vegas and Lightning Link. The lawsuit, funded by Litigation Capital Management and brought by William Roberts Lawyers, argues that Aristocrat’s social casino games operate as unregulated gambling products. It claims these games fail to display winning odds or impose financial and time limits for players—features required under Australian law for traditional poker machines.

The plaintiff further alleges that Aristocrat misled technology partners by falsely asserting its games complied with local regulations. The company, however, has strongly denied the accusations. A spokesperson insisted the games are purely for entertainment and do not qualify as gambling. Aristocrat has vowed to defend itself vigorously against the claims. The legal dispute centres on whether social casino games should face the same regulatory scrutiny as conventional gambling machines.

The outcome of this case could determine how social casino games are classified under Australian law. If successful, the lawsuit may force Aristocrat to alter its products or face stricter oversight. The company’s shares remain under watch as the legal process unfolds.
