APT Taipei Main Event draws 2,354 players in record-breaking $3.5M tournament
The $1,700 APT Taipei Main Event entered its second day on Wednesday, split into two separate flights. A total of 2,354 players competed, building a prizepool of TWD 111 million (around $3.5 million). This makes it the second-largest APT Main Event, just 193 entries short of last year’s record.
Day 2A kicked off at 11am, featuring survivors from Day 1A, 1C, and 1D. Late registration remained open for at least an hour, giving extra time for players to join. Among the late arrivals was Phachara Wongwichit, who took advantage of the extended window.
Day 2B began later at 3pm, with players advancing from Day 1B. Both flights allowed latecomers to start with 40,000 chips, while blinds sat at 700/1,400 with a 1,400 big blind ante. The event is part of the broader 'Mind Sports Week', which set a new record for combined mind sports and poker tournaments with 31 entrants. The top prize now stands at $526,000, with 340 players guaranteed to finish in the money.
The tournament’s prizepool reached TWD 111 million, drawing strong competition across both flights. With late registration extending into Day 2, more players had the chance to enter before the field locked. The final payouts will see 340 players earn a share, with the winner taking home $526,000.
