Michigan Launches 24/7 Helpline for Problem Gambling Support
A new helpline for problem gambling support has launched in Michigan. The initiative, announced by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) in February 2024, aims to provide round-the-clock assistance to those in need. The service is part of broader efforts to protect players and enforce responsible gaming laws. The MGCB introduced the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline to offer immediate help for gambling-related issues. Operated by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), the service is available every day of the year, 24 hours a day. Trained staff provide guidance, emotional support, and practical information to callers struggling with gambling problems.
Calls made within Michigan will be routed to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The previous helpline number, 1-800-270-7117, remains active for those who prefer it. Support is also accessible via text, live chat, and the new helpline number, ensuring multiple ways to reach out.
The Michigan Lottery has joined the campaign to promote the service. Alongside the helpline, the lottery offers responsible gaming tools such as self-exclusion, deposit limits, and play history tracking. These measures align with the MGCB’s commitment to player well-being and combating illegal gambling. The 1-800-GAMBLER helpline expands support options for Michigan residents affected by problem gambling. With 24/7 availability and multiple contact methods, the service ensures help is always within reach. The MGCB and its partners continue to prioritise safe and responsible gaming across the state.
