Magadanenergo braces for spring floods with emergency drills and checks
Branches of Magadanenergo PJSC (part of the RusHydro Group) are preparing for the safe passage of spring floods and high water. The primary goal is to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers and respond swiftly to any potential emergencies, the company's press service reports.
Specialists are inspecting drainage systems for surface and groundwater on production sites, substations, buildings, and other facilities. Particular attention is being paid to the functionality of drains, catchment systems, diversion channels, and ditches. In areas prone to erosion, additional reinforcement is being carried out on the slopes of earthen structures and shorelines.
Energy workers have organized unscheduled inspections of power line sections running through river floodplains, marshy areas, and zones at risk of flooding. Mandatory checks are being conducted on power line crossings over rivers and streams. Experts are assessing clearances, the condition of shorelines, and the presence of trees that could collapse during flooding. If necessary, measures are taken to protect supports from undermining, displacement, or collapse.
The condition of ash disposal dams is under special scrutiny. If needed, steps are taken to prevent erosion. The reliability of mechanical equipment at hydraulic structures—including gates, spillway devices, lifting mechanisms, trash racks, and pumping systems—is also being verified.
An emergency stockpile of construction materials, support components, and tools has been established. Emergency response teams have been formed and equipped with specialized machinery. Unscheduled briefings and drills are being conducted with personnel to address potential flood-related emergencies. Public alert systems have been tested, and enhanced monitoring of the situation during the flood period has been implemented.
"We are paying special attention to the reliability of power supply during the flood season," commented Alexander Zolotarev, Magadanenergo's emergency response and civil defense specialist. "All measures are being carried out strictly according to an approved plan—from heightened oversight of hydraulic structures to practical training for staff. Our goal is to minimize risks and ensure the stable operation of energy facilities under any conditions."
