Zuckerberg’s MMA obsession pushes Meta’s leadership into combat training
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has pushed his leadership team into high-risk combat sports training, according to a new book by former executive Nick Clegg. The sessions, which included mixed martial arts (MMA), reportedly left some senior staff uncomfortable. Clegg’s revelations highlight a broader shift in Zuckerberg’s public image—one that now emphasises aggression and physical resilience.
Zuckerberg’s fascination with martial arts is long-standing. He has competed in amateur jiu-jitsu tournaments and even planned a cage fight with Elon Musk last year, though the event was later called off. His latest known training session took place in October 2025, where he sparred with UFC fighters like Alex Pereira, Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski.
Zuckerberg’s push for MMA training among Meta’s leadership reflects a wider transformation in how he presents himself. The sessions, though divisive internally, reinforce an image of discipline and resilience. With his political stance evolving and his public persona hardening, the CEO’s approach to leadership appears increasingly defined by confrontation and physical challenge.
