YouTube’s age restrictions leave poker creators fighting for survival

Poker content marketing specialists are facing growing challenges on YouTube as stricter age restrictions cut into their viewership. Hristivoje 'All In Pav' Pavlovic, a well-known figure in the scene, has seen a sharp decline in audience numbers. The issue extends beyond him, with other communication skills experts like Daniel Negreanu and Brad Owen also struggling to maintain their reach.

YouTube’s policy changes have targeted gambling-related content, requiring adult viewers to log in before accessing videos. This extra step has led to fewer views, particularly during major events like the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online, where Negreanu noted a steep drop in engagement.

Pavlovic has faced direct consequences, receiving two strikes from YouTube—one resulting in a 7-day ban, the other a 14-day suspension. These penalties, combined with limited monetisation opportunities, have made it harder for him to justify the time spent editing videos. Even when creators attempt to appeal, communication with YouTube’s policy team remains difficult, leaving many frustrated by the lack of clarity.

The problem isn’t limited to a single creator. Brad Owen, another prominent poker YouTuber, has warned of an existential threat to the community after one of his side channels was removed. While the poker content space has grown rapidly, the platform’s restrictions are now forcing creators to reconsider their future. Switching to alternative platforms offers little relief, as none provide the same level of visibility or monetisation potential.

The restrictions have created a tough environment for poker creators, with fewer views and increasing uncertainty. Without clearer communication from YouTube or viable alternatives, many may struggle to sustain their channels. The impact is already visible, with key figures in the community facing bans, reduced income, and a shrinking audience.
