WSOP’s hidden masters: How poker specialists dominate beyond No-Limit Hold’em
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has seen players excel across a wide range of poker variants beyond the usual No-Limit Hold'em. Some have built impressive records in niche games, earning millions and securing multiple bracelets. These specialists prove that mastery in less common formats can be just as lucrative as mainstream poker success.
In Omaha, Shaun Deeb leads all players with $6,155,599 in WSOP earnings. His dominance in the game sets him apart from competitors. Meanwhile, Scott Clements has made his mark in Omaha Hi/Lo, taking home $1,124,751 from the series.
Phil Hellmuth, best known for his No-Limit Hold'em success, has also thrived in other variants. He has won three of his last six WSOP bracelets in non-Hold'em games, including two in Razz, where he earned $520,638. His versatility extends beyond his famous 'Poker Brat' persona in traditional tournaments.
In Stud, Men Nguyen stands out with $894,850 in winnings, while George Danzer has collected $691,342 in Stud Hi/Lo. Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) has become a favorite for Daniel Negreanu, who has openly praised the game in recent years. Jason Lester, another PLO specialist, has earned $855,272 in Pot-Limit Hold'em at the WSOP.
The $50K Poker Players Championship, a mixed-game event, has been dominated by Bryn Kenney. He holds the record with two titles (2014 and 2019), a feat no other player has matched. Elsewhere, David Chiu leads in Limit Hold'em with $1,213,489 in earnings, and Erik Seidel tops the 2-7 Single Draw category with $838,029.
These players demonstrate that success at the WSOP isn't limited to No-Limit Hold'em. Their achievements in Stud, Omaha, Razz, and mixed games highlight the depth of skill across poker's many formats. With specialists continuing to thrive, the WSOP remains a stage for diverse poker talent.
