WSOP 2025 Main Event erupts in drama as bubble nears with record field
The 2025 WSOP Main Event has reached a dramatic turning point with a record 6,283 players competing. As the bubble neared, a high-stakes hand unfolded between three remaining contenders—each fighting for survival in the largest field in tournament history.
The action began when Seyed Tabaei limped in for 5,000 from under the gun. Aigars Petrovs, in the Big Blind, then moved all in, putting Tabaei at risk. Tabaei quickly called, committing his stack.
The flop came 4♥ 5♣ 9♥, keeping Tabaei ahead with his pocket kings against Petrovs' A♥ 9♦. Rene Cifuentes, holding A♦ K♦, had already gone all in for 31,000 earlier in the hand. The turn brought the 3♥, giving Petrovs a flush draw and a glimmer of hope.
The river delivered the A♣, pairing Petrovs' ace and forming two-pair. His improved hand knocked out both Tabaei and Cifuentes in a single stroke, securing a crucial double elimination.
The moment marked one of the most pivotal hands as the tournament approached the money bubble, with players battling to avoid elimination before the payouts began.
Petrovs' double knockout reshaped the remaining field as the event neared its critical phase. With the bubble looming, the pressure on the remaining players intensified, each now fighting for a share of the record-breaking prize pool.
