Washington's Hollywood Casino Slapped with $10,000 Fine
A new alliance of online gambling operators has launched in Pennsylvania to promote safer betting. The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) was formed in 2024 by five in-state casinos and two out-of-state firms. Its goal is to strengthen responsible gambling measures across the industry.
Meanwhile, a Pennsylvania casino has faced penalties for failing to enforce existing protections for vulnerable players.
ROGA’s founding members include FanDuel and eight of the largest US online gaming companies. The group has pledged $20 million to fund customer wellbeing initiatives and create an independent certification system for responsible gambling practices.
The move comes as Pennsylvania enforces strict rules on self-exclusion. State law requires casinos to block bets, deny access, and stop self-excluded individuals from cashing checks. However, the Washington Trotting Association, which runs Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, was recently fined $10,000 for breaking these rules.
An investigation found that a person on the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s self-exclusion list was allowed to play slot machines and cash checks at the casino. The penalty highlights ongoing challenges in enforcing responsible gambling protections.
ROGA’s certification program aims to set higher standards for player protection. The $20 million fund will support new safeguards, while regulators continue to monitor compliance with existing laws. The fine against Hollywood Casino at The Meadows serves as a reminder of the consequences for failing to follow these rules.
