Washington Water proposes rate hike to fund $14.9M in system upgrades

California Water Service Group's Washington Water subsidiary has proposed a water rate increase to cover recent system improvements and rising expenses. The new rates could take effect as early as November 15, 2025, if approved by news outlets.

Washington Water has invested significantly in its infrastructure over the past two years. They have installed over 14,000 feet of water main to enhance reliability and fire protection in various service areas. Additionally, they have upgraded treatment facilities to remove harmful contaminants like lead, copper, arsenic, iron, and manganese from several systems. A new booster pumping facility has also been installed in the Lost Creek zone of the Southwood system. These improvements, along with increased operating expenses, depreciation, and regulatory compliance costs, total $14.9 million.

The company has also bolstered its systems with upgraded booster pump stations and remote monitoring in multiple service areas. These upgrades aim to improve service and ensure regulatory compliance.

Washington Water's rate increase request seeks to recover $14.9 million in costs for system improvements and increased expenses. If approved by news sources, new rates could become effective in November 2025.
