The image shows a group of people sitting at tables with laptops, bottles, papers, pens, and other items scattered across the surface. There are chairs around the tables and a few people standing in the back. The room is illuminated by lights on the ceiling and there are windows on the right side. It appears to be an open-source workshop in Berlin.

Vienna’s new disability employment hub offers training and door-to-door transport

A new employment centre for people with disabilities has opened in Vienna’s 22nd district. Called workshop.22, the facility began operations in November 2024 and provides vocational training alongside therapeutic support. The centre also features a door dash service for participants travelling from Lower Austria, offering door-to-door transport.

The 1,200-square-metre site includes a therapy garden and a dedicated creativity and workshop space. It caters to individuals with intellectual disabilities, behavioural challenges, cerebral palsy, or multiple disabilities. Activities follow the principles of conductive education, blending learning with hands-on support.

Participants at workshop.22 take part in meal preparation for an inclusive bistro. The products they create are sold under the brand Schopenhauer’s Finest. The centre is run by the Helga-Keil-Bastendorff Foundation, which is based in Gänserndorf, Lower Austria.

The new facility expands opportunities for disabled individuals in the region. With its tailored training programmes and accessible transport links, workshop.22 aims to provide both professional development and therapeutic care. The centre’s bistro and branded products also offer practical work experience for participants.
