Vienna's Café Landtmann rebrands for a week to celebrate women's empowerment
Café Landtmann in Vienna will temporarily change its name to Café Stadtfrau from March 2 to 8, marking International Women's Day with a week of local events focused on women's issues. The programme kicks off with a networking evening for women in hospitality and tourism, featuring guest speaker Elisabeth Görgl, a two-time alpine skiing world champion.
The initiative, now in its second year, aims to foster dialogue, professional growth, and mutual support among women. Anita Querfeld, the café's senior owner, described it as 'a cause very close to our hearts' and highlighted the many women who have contributed to the establishment's history.
The week-long programme will host eleven events exploring topics such as family planning, social networking, and gender-equitable healthcare. A barista workshop for women is also scheduled, offering hands-on training in coffee preparation.
Julia Querfeld, Anita Querfeld's daughter-in-law, is leading this year's programme. She follows the café's tradition of supporting women's empowerment, visibility, and exchange. Karoline Klezl, Anita Querfeld's granddaughter, emphasised the importance of creating a space where women can connect, learn, and inspire one another.
Last year's event brought together women from the hospitality and tourism sectors for an evening of discussion and networking. While exact attendance figures are not publicly available, the café has noted strong interest from professionals across generations. The initiative continues to build on its mission of celebrating women's contributions while addressing current challenges in their fields.
The renamed Café Stadtfrau will run its events from March 2 to 8, offering a mix of workshops, talks, and networking opportunities. The programme seeks to strengthen connections among women in Vienna and beyond. Organisers hope the week will encourage ongoing conversations about equality and professional development in the industry.
