Vienna and Copenhagen Again Top the World’s Most Livable Cities in 2024
The latest global livability rankings have been released, showing little change at the top. For the third year running, Vienna and Copenhagen secured the first and second spots. Meanwhile, two Canadian cities—Calgary and Vancouver—remained among the world’s most livable, though their positions shifted slightly.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) ranks cities based on five key factors: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. In 2024, all cities in the top 10 had also appeared there the previous year, indicating consistent livability standards.
The 2024 rankings highlight stability among the world’s most livable cities, with Vienna and Copenhagen retaining their leading positions. Calgary’s rise and Toronto’s drop reflect shifting conditions, particularly in housing and infrastructure. The results underscore the importance of balanced urban development in maintaining high livability standards.
