UK pledges £10M to rebuild Ukraine's railways and boost grain exports amid war

The UK government has announced a £10 million support package for Ukrainian Railways as part of a new partnership with Ukraine. The funding will help repair critical infrastructure and boost grain exports during the ongoing conflict. Five buses and specialist equipment will also be sent to assist in rebuilding efforts.

The agreement between the UK and Ukraine includes sharing engineering expertise and technical advice from British private-sector firms. This collaboration will focus on rebuilding airports, runways, and ports, as well as providing training for Ukrainian airport staff. The UK will also supply equipment for repairing grain export routes, including bridge and tunnel maintenance tools.

The £10 million funding will support the Black Sea Grain Initiative, ensuring safer transport of grain, food, and fertiliser. This aims to stabilise global food prices by improving Ukraine's export capacity. Additionally, five buses from the Go Ahead Group will be sent to Ukraine to assist with transport needs.

Ukraine's Minister of Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov, thanked the UK for its comprehensive support. While UK-based transport organisations can register interest in the partnership, no British companies have yet officially committed to joining the reconstruction efforts.

The partnership will provide both immediate aid and long-term infrastructure support for Ukraine. The funding and equipment are expected to strengthen grain exports and improve transport networks. UK firms may still join the initiative as the programme develops.
