Uganda Strengthens Oversight of Online Games Through New Partnership
The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) in Uganda has teamed up with the Judiciary and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to bolster oversight of the country's gaming sector. This collaboration seeks to enhance accountability, ensure fair play, and safeguard consumers in the rapidly growing industry of online games.
The partnership will involve all licensed operators under the Botswana Gambling Authority in expanded mandatory anti-money laundering (AML) and responsible gaming training. This move aims to improve handling of gaming law violations, with a focus on compliance and education. Senior State Attorney Judith Nyamwiza stressed the importance of timely prosecutions and clear legal processes to maintain public trust in the gaming system.
Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu underscored the Judiciary's commitment to understanding the gaming industry and supporting the NLGRB. The collaboration aims to improve enforcement, protect players, and ensure compliance with gaming laws through capacity building, expertise sharing, and coordinated efforts.
Through this partnership, the NLGRB, Judiciary, and ODPP aim to strengthen accountability, ensure fair play, and protect consumers in Uganda's online games sector.
