Trump's 2016 campaign gets $100M boost from Adelson ahead of Clinton showdown
Donald Trump is gearing up for the last phase of his 2016 presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton. After securing the Republican nomination, he is now working to rally financial support from key donors. One of his strongest backers, billionaire Sheldon Adelson, has pledged a massive $100 million to boost Trump's bid for the White House.
Adelson, a long-time Republican supporter, has also funded a pro-Trump super PAC with his own wealth. His influence extends beyond money, as he has persuaded lawmakers to back policies like the Restoration of America's Wire Act (RAWA), which aims to ban online gambling—a cause he champions.
Sheldon Adelson's political ties to Trump run deep. In 2016 alone, he contributed over $600 million to Republican causes, including Trump's campaign. His support also includes strategic pro-Israel initiatives, such as donating $50 million in 2015 to combat the BDS movement through groups like the Jewish National Fund. These efforts align with Trump's later pro-Israel policies as president.
Adelson's influence stretches into Trump's campaign team. Michael Abboud, recently hired to manage rapid response and daily messaging, is the nephew of Andy Abboud—a top executive at Adelson's company, Las Vegas Sands. Michael Abboud previously worked on Nebraska Senator Pete Pirsch's failed 2014 attorney general campaign. Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, one of Trump's closest advisors, has been actively urging supporters to back the candidate. With Adelson's financial backing and key allies like Christie, Trump is pushing hard to secure the funds and momentum needed for the final stretch of the race.
Trump's campaign is now backed by Adelson's $100 million pledge and a network of influential supporters. The billionaire's financial and political weight, combined with Christie's advocacy, strengthens Trump's position as he faces Clinton in the general election. The coming months will show how this alliance shapes the race for the White House.
