The Londoner Macao reopens with a star-studded $3.7B transformation after pandemic hiatus
The Londoner Macao has officially reopened after a two-year renovation. A grand celebration marked the unveiling of the resort's upgraded facilities, drawing high-profile guests like David Beckham for the first time since the pandemic.
The resort's redesign takes inspiration from British landmarks, featuring replicas of Big Ben and the Changing of the Guard. Inside, visitors will find five hotels, three spas, and four health clubs. There are also over 20 restaurants, 150 boutiques, and a 6,000-seat arena.
Las Vegas Sands hosted an exclusive event called *The Journey Begins* to showcase the resort to VIP guests. The company has committed US$3.7 billion (MOP 30.2 billion) to Macau's development, reinforcing its long-term investment in the region. This follows Sands China Ltd. securing a ten-year gaming concession for Macau. The Cotai Strip's economic recovery has been uneven since 2024. While visitor numbers to Macau have rebounded post-pandemic, the Londoner Macao now competes with established venues like The Venetian Macao and The Parisian Macao. Despite this, themed resorts continue to report strong occupancy and gaming revenue.
The completion of the Londoner Macao's renovation is set to strengthen Macau's and the Cotai Strip's economy. With expanded amenities and a fresh design, the resort aims to attract more tourists and boost local business. The project reflects ongoing efforts to revitalise the region's hospitality and entertainment sectors.
