Texas poker club raided in money laundering probe, leaving players in limbo
A raid at Lodge Card Club in Texas has left the poker community in uncertainty. Early on Tuesday morning, authorities searched the premises as part of an investigation into suspected money laundering and illegal gambling operations. The club has since closed, with management stating they remain unclear on the reasons behind the crackdown.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) confirmed the investigation but provided few additional details. During the raid, officers served a warrant to the club's management and photographed players' identification. Despite the disruption, players were allowed to leave with their chips.
Doug Polk, a well-known figure in the poker world, responded quickly to the news. He denied any knowledge of money laundering at Lodge and promised to share more information soon. Polk also assured players that all funds would be returned once the investigation concludes. Meanwhile, Tom Dwan criticised Polk's handling of past issues, accusing him of overlooking cheating concerns. The two have a history of disagreements, with Dwan recently suggesting they resolve their differences in a heads-up poker match. So far, the Texas Hold'em community has shown little visible reaction to the closure. Mentions of the raid have appeared mainly in German online casino news, but no clear alternatives for players have emerged.
Lodge Card Club remains closed while the investigation continues. Players await further updates, with Polk's promise of refunds offering some reassurance. The outcome of the probe will determine whether the club reopens or faces permanent shutdown.
