Tesla's new app updates turn cars into grid power sources and smarter navigators

Tesla is rolling out major updates to its app and vehicle features. Owners will soon be able to support the electrical grid using their cars while also gaining improved navigation and insurance tools. The changes include new ways to earn credits and better policy management.

The company is introducing Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities, letting Tesla vehicles feed power back into the grid during peak demand. Owners will receive real-time updates and notifications about earnings or bill credits through the Tesla app. The system will also check eligibility automatically, based on the car's model, hardware, and subscription status.

For those who need flexibility, drivers can opt out of grid support before long trips or other key moments. A new navigation system called Voyager is in development, offering multi-stop itineraries and detailed tracking. However, this feature may only work on newer Teslas with Ryzen processors or the Cybertruck. The app's insurance section is also getting an upgrade. A banner carousel will simplify managing multiple policies, while a native digital ID card system ensures offline access for drivers.

The updates bring financial incentives for grid support alongside more convenient navigation and insurance tools. Tesla owners with compatible vehicles will see these changes in the coming months. The app's new features aim to streamline both energy management and daily driving tasks.
