TaDa Gaming debuts in South Africa via Betway amid legal uncertainty
TaDa Gaming has launched its slot games in South Africa through a partnership with Betway. The move comes despite ongoing legal uncertainty around online gambling in the country. Betway, which continues to operate under provincial licences, now offers titles like Ocean Hunter and Fortune Gems to local players.
TaDa Gaming's portfolio entered the South African market under a Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) licence. The deal with Betway allows players to access games such as Crazy 777, Coin Tree, and Devil Fire 2. Ray Lee, TaDa's Director of Business Development, highlighted that collaborations like this strengthen their brand presence in the region.
South Africa's online gambling laws remain unclear. While the National Gambling Act bans online slots and casinos, enforcement varies. Betway operates by partnering with provincial gambling sites, which hold state-issued licences. However, the Western Cape and other regions have tightened restrictions since late 2025, blocking IP addresses and fining unlicensed operators—including a R50 million penalty against Betway. The market's future could shift soon. TaDa Gaming noted that regulators are debating changes that might introduce a regulated model within years. Meanwhile, South Africa's iGaming sector is projected to reach R80 billion ($4.2 billion) in annual revenue by 2030. TaDa Gaming already has a foothold in Africa through its *betPawa* brand, active in multiple countries. The company was also named SiGMA's Africa Slot Newcomer of the Year in 2025.
Betway maintains it complies with local laws, despite the legal grey area. Players can now access TaDa's games, but stricter enforcement measures remain in place. Any regulatory reforms could reshape how online gambling operates in South Africa in the coming years.
