Sweden’s Gambling Watchdog Denies Self-Exclusion Data Leak Claims
The controversy began with a P1 documentary, Kasinoläckan, which raised concerns about a potential data breach in Spelpaus. In response, Spelinspektionen conducted an investigation and confirmed that all data within the register remains encrypted. The regulator also clarified that Spelpaus does not store addresses, phone numbers, or details about whether players have gambling problems.
Spelinspektionen maintains that no data breach has occurred in Spelpaus, though concerns persist about offshore operators bypassing restrictions. The regulator continues to enforce penalties against unlicensed gambling sites while promoting safer betting practices. The European Commission’s accusations add another layer of oversight to Sweden’s gambling regulations.
