Super Bowl 2025 betting frenzy sparks warnings over financial risks

The Virginia Council on Problem Gambling (VCPG) has issued a warning to sports fans ahead of Super Bowl 60. With billions expected to be wagered, the organisation is urging bettors to gamble responsibly and avoid financial risks.

An estimated 25 billion USD (over 23 billion euros) was bet on Super Bowl 60 in the US alone. At least 27% of sports fans planned to place bets, but many more could be tempted to spend beyond their means.

VCPG president Carolyn Hawley advised gamblers to set strict limits on both time and money. She warned against using funds meant for bills or borrowing to cover bets. The council also stressed that losing is part of gambling and urged people not to chase losses.

The organisation recommended that betting should never interfere with daily life. Responsible gambling means keeping it separate from work, family, and other responsibilities.

The VCPG's warning comes as Super Bowl betting reaches record levels. Fans are being reminded to plan ahead and avoid excessive gambling. The focus remains on ensuring that betting stays within safe and manageable limits.
