Sonnenhof Orthopedics Takes Over Emmental Hospital’s Orthopedic Department in 2023

Emmental Hospital is expanding its long-standing partnership with Sonnenhof Orthopedics. From March 1, 2023, the private clinic will take full control of the hospital’s orthopedic department. The move aims to secure specialised care for the region over the long term.

The two institutions have worked together since 2016, focusing on spinal and hip surgeries. Now, their collaboration will cover all orthopedic specialties, including medical, organisational, and operational leadership.

Sonnenhof Orthopedics will manage the existing Emmental orthopedics team. Current physicians at the hospital will remain in place as attending doctors. The expanded agreement comes as the healthcare sector faces growing pressures, such as staff shortages and changes under Bern Canton’s planned 4+ care model.

The partnership ensures continuity of orthopedic services in the Emmental region. Sonnenhof Orthopedics will oversee the department’s daily operations while maintaining the hospital’s existing medical staff. The transition takes effect on March 1, 2023.
