Snuneymuxw First Nation purchases the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam
The Snuneymuxw First Nation has reached a deal to buy the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam. This purchase marks a major move toward economic independence for the community. The transaction is set to complete in early 2026, pending final approvals and conditions.
The Snuneymuxw First Nation, one of British Columbia’s largest Indigenous groups with around 2,000 members, announced the acquisition on Tuesday. The casino, located in Coquitlam, features 917 slot machines, 37 table games, and 42 electronic table games.
The deal still requires regulatory approval and the fulfilment of standard closing conditions. Once finalised, the purchase will support the nation’s goal of achieving greater financial control and self-sufficiency.
The casino acquisition represents a significant step in the Snuneymuxw First Nation’s economic strategy. If all conditions are met, the transaction will conclude in early 2026. The move will also expand the nation’s business portfolio in the region.
