Ruben Perez Correa earns €9,400 in high-stakes EPT Barcelona showdown

Ruben Perez Correa has secured €9,400 after finishing fifth in the 2024 PokerStars EPT Barcelona €5,300 Main Event. The tournament, won by Jose Aguilera on August 28, saw Correa exit after a high-stakes hand against the eventual champion. So far, the event has awarded €170,435 in prizes across 383 entries.

Correa entered the final table with a mid-sized stack of around 25 big blinds. His chips steadily dwindled due to early aggressive play, leaving him behind top contenders like Aguilera, who grew his stack from 40 big blinds to victory, and runner-up Parker Talbot, who maintained 50-70 big blinds throughout.

At Level 28, with blinds at 60,000/120,000, Correa held just 120,000 in chips. On the Button, he open-shoved for 395,000. Jose Aguilera, the chip leader, called from the Big Blind after getting a favourable price. Correa revealed A♦️ J♠️, while Aguilera showed Q♣️ 10♦️. The flop came 5♦️ Q♠️ 8♦️, giving Aguilera a pair of queens and the lead. The turn (5♥️) and river (6♥️) failed to improve Correa's hand, sealing his fifth-place finish. With only four players remaining, Correa's exit added €9,400 to his earnings. His seventh-place overall in the tournament reflects a strong performance in a field of 383 entries.

Correa's run ended with a critical hand against Aguilera, who went on to win the event. The €9,400 prize brings the total awarded so far to €170,435. The tournament continues with four players still competing for the title.
