Reebok's Engine A marks bold return to basketball shoe market
Reebok has launched its first performance basketball shoe in over ten years. The Engine A arrived on 13 February, marking the brand's push to regain ground in the basketball market. Priced at $120, the shoe combines modern technology with a design inspired by the 1990s Mobius line.
The release follows Reebok's 2022 partnership with the WNBA, which made it an official footwear supplier for the league. A year later, the company appointed Shaquille O'Neal as president of its basketball division to lead strategy and partnerships. The Engine A introduces several new features for basketball players. Its lightweight, breathable exoskeleton upper aims to improve comfort and support. Below, a rubber outsole with herringbone traction provides grip on the court. Inside, a patented Energy Return System promises better responsiveness during play.
Reebok's global marketing campaign will showcase the shoe through its basketball roster. WNBA stars Angel Reese and Lexie Brown appear alongside NBA player Matas Buzelis in promotions. CEO Todd Krinsky described the Engine A as proof of the brand's focus on performance, innovation, and athlete needs.
Initially, the shoe launches in a silver colourway. Reebok plans to release additional designs throughout the year, expanding options for players and fans. The Engine A represents Reebok's return to basketball footwear after a long absence. With new technology, a WNBA partnership, and O'Neal's leadership, the brand is positioning itself for growth in the sport. The shoe's performance features and planned colour updates suggest a long-term commitment to the market.
