Punk Rock & Paintbrushes Exhibition Returns July 6, 2025
An art exhibition blending punk rock and visual art, 'Punk Rock and Paintbrushes', is set to return on July 6, 2025, at the Siebold-Museum. The event will showcase works by musicians and artists connected to the punk scene, with proceeds benefiting various charities.
The exhibition, started by Emily Neilsen in 2014 after recovering from cancer, has collaborated with Jim McIlrath of Rise Against. It features a diverse range of artists, including Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction, and Tiffany Anastasia Lowe.
Some artists are also punk musicians themselves, like Mike Gallo of Agnostic Front and Warren Fitzgerald of The Vandals. Kristin Koefoed's vibrant, humorous art is inspired by her love for punk rock and album art. Stacie Stevenson, wife of Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents), has displayed photos of musicians in live settings. Warren Fitzgerald's art explores his unique sense of humor and surreal, outsider art sensibility.
Signed and painted guitars have been donated by bands such as Green Day, Gwar, and Dropkick Murphys to support various causes. Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy finds painting to be a more meditative experience than making music.
The 'Punk Rock and Paintbrushes' exhibition offers a unique blend of punk rock culture and visual art. With works by musicians and artists connected to the punk scene, it promises a vibrant and engaging event. Proceeds will go towards supporting various charities, making it a meaningful addition to the art world.
