PokerOK's bold 2019 launch redefined high-stakes online poker forever
PokerOK launched in February 2019 after GG Network took over the struggling Lotos Poker platform. The site quickly became known for its bold design and high-stakes games, attracting players with its unique features. Its official opening date was set for February 13 that year.
The platform's early days saw invitation-only 'Home Games' with stakes reaching $100/$200. These high-limit cash games had limited action, often featuring stacks of just 40 big blinds and a steep 3% uncapped rake. Despite this, PokerOK stood out with innovations like action share buying, an unconventional cash-drop system, and All-in or Fold tables.
One of its first ambassadors was Sergei Rybachenko, nicknamed 'Gipsy'. He made headlines by winning back-to-back $1,000 evening tournaments, boosting the site's reputation. Over time, PokerOK expanded access by introducing Featured Tables for Omaha and Hold'em, with stakes up to NL/PL20,000, open to all players.
The platform also rolled out features rarely seen outside mobile apps at the time, including straddles and all-in insurance. By 2019, GG Network had overtaken rivals like PokerStars and Partypoker, becoming the leading hub for high-stakes online poker. PokerOK's beginner mission system and striking visual design further set it apart from competitors.
PokerOK's launch marked a shift in online poker, blending high-stakes exclusivity with broad accessibility. Its mix of unique features and bold branding helped GG Network dominate the market. The site continues to operate without public records of its highest buy-in sums or most influential tournaments.
