Poker legend Annette Obrestad returns to WSOP Europe after decade-long break

Poker legend Annette Obrestad is making a comeback after nearly a decade away from the game. The Norwegian player, who once dominated the scene, will return to competitive poker at the 2026 World Series of Poker Europe in March and April. Obrestad first burst onto the poker scene in 2007 when she won the WSOP Europe Main Event at just 18. She became the youngest player ever to win a World Series of Poker bracelet, taking home £1 million in London. Over the years, she also claimed victory in a £5,000 heads-up event at EPT London in 2010 and finished second at EPT Dublin 2007 for $429,181. One of her most unusual feats was winning a 180-player online tournament without ever looking at her cards.

She stepped away from poker in 2018, citing personal health struggles, including an eating disorder. During her break, she explored other interests, competing in Scrabble tournaments and running a YouTube channel, Annette's Makeup Corner, where she shared beauty tips.

Now, Obrestad is preparing for her return by playing low-stakes cash games in Las Vegas. She admits she's still rusty and unfamiliar with modern playing styles. Rather than intense study, she plans to rely on her existing experience. Her main goal is simple: to enjoy the game again and soak up the atmosphere of big tournaments.

Obrestad has expressed excitement about reconnecting with the poker community. While unsure of her performance, she's looking forward to the challenge and the chance to meet new players. The 2026 WSOP Europe will mark Obrestad's first major tournament in years. She enters without heavy preparation, focusing instead on fun and reconnection. Her return adds a storied name to the competition, with fans eager to see how she fares after her long absence.
