Playboy Germany sues Meta after Facebook page gets permanently banned
Kouneli Media, the publisher of Playboy in Germany, is taking legal action against Meta after the company permanently blocked the magazine's Facebook page. The suspension followed alleged breaches of community guidelines on adult content, though Meta has not specified which posts led to the decision. Kouneli Media has now enlisted a Munich law firm to seek an injunction while also filing a formal complaint with Germany's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur).
The dispute began when Meta deactivated Playboy Germany's Facebook page, citing violations related to 'sexually suggestive contact between adults' and 'nudity and sexual activity'. Despite repeated requests, the company has not clarified which exact content triggered the ban. Kouneli Media claims it has tried to engage with Meta constructively but received no clear response.
In response, the publisher has turned to legal measures. A Munich-based law firm has been retained to pursue an injunction against Meta, aiming to restore the page. The Free Press Media Association (*Medienverband der freien Presse*, MVFP) has publicly supported Kouneli Media's challenge, arguing that the suspension raises concerns over content moderation and press freedom. Kouneli Media also filed a complaint with the *Bundesnetzagentur*, Germany's regulatory authority for digital networks. However, as of March 2026, the agency has not issued any public statement or outlined further steps regarding the case. No updates on its response have been reported since the complaint was lodged.
The legal battle between Kouneli Media and Meta continues, with the publisher pushing for the reinstatement of Playboy Germany's Facebook presence. The case has drawn attention from press freedom advocates, while regulators have yet to intervene. For now, the page remains suspended, and Meta has not provided detailed justifications for its decision.
