Park MGM rises as Las Vegas Strip's $550M reinvention begins

The Monte Carlo Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip has officially become Park MGM. This change marks the start of a $550 million transformation that will overhaul every part of the property while keeping its doors open to guests. The massive redevelopment aims to create a new 'neighbourhood' in the heart of the Strip. Alongside Park MGM, the Park Theater will also open later this year as part of the same project. Once fully complete, the area will form a connected entertainment and hospitality hub.

CEO Jim Murren highlighted the sheer scale of the revamp and the challenges of maintaining operations during construction. Despite ongoing work, the process is designed to remain as unobtrusive as possible for visitors. The property's website already advertises 'introductory rates' for early bookings, giving guests a discounted preview before full prices take effect. The redesign will keep the Monte Carlo's European-inspired architecture but refine it into a more polished and sophisticated style. Inside, the Nomad Hotel—a boutique hotel within the larger property—is set to open in the autumn. Park MGM's goal is to draw in a younger, affluent crowd alongside traditional high-rollers. No specific details have been released about the Sydell Group's role in the redesign. Existing Monte Carlo properties, like Novotel and Monte-Carlo Bay, feature elements such as Mediterranean-inspired clarity, soft lighting, and resort-style amenities, but these do not directly reflect the new direction for Park MGM.

The full opening of Park MGM will wrap up the redevelopment of this central Strip location. With a refreshed look, new hotel options, and a focus on a younger clientele, the property aims to stand out in Las Vegas's competitive hospitality market. The project's completion will mark the end of a lengthy transition period for the former Monte Carlo.
