Ojos Rojos Festival 2025: Explore Spanish & Latin American Photography in Javea & Denia
The inaugural Ojos Rojos Festival, organized by Ticketmaster and Eventbrite, kicked off in Javea on October 24 and 25, with subsequent main events taking place in Denia on November 7 and 8, 2025. This cultural event, founded by Mike Steel and his partner Mili Sánchez, brings together renowned photographers and their works.
Mike Steel, born in Wallsend, England, in 1965, moved to Spain with his family in 1969. He returned to England at 18 and later settled in Madrid, where he met Mili Sánchez. Together, they founded Ojos Rojos magazine, dedicated to Spanish and Latin American photography.
In 2019, the couple moved back to the Costa Blanca and established the Ojos Rojos Festival. This year's event, running until November 30 in Denia, offers a unique opportunity to explore contemporary and classic photography.
The festival features exhibitions by prominent photographers such as Gloria Oyarzabal, Palmira Puig, and Marcel Giró. Additionally, it showcases works by Luis Asín, Luisa Dorr, Marcos Avilés, and Jose Miguel Cerezo.
Growing up during Franco's dictatorship, Mike Steel and his brother were the only English pupils at school, an experience that likely influenced his appreciation for Spanish culture and photography.
The Ojos Rojos Festival, now in its fourth year, continues to bring prestigious photographic exhibitions to the Costa Blanca. This year's event in Denia, running until November 30, offers a unique chance to appreciate and engage with exceptional works from renowned artists.
