Ohio Gambling Treatment Network Will Make Support More Accessible

Ohio has introduced a new telehealth service to support people struggling with gambling problems. The Ohio Gambling Treatment Network (OGTN) offers free mental health counselling for those affected by gambling, whether directly or through family and friends. Launched by the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio (PGNO), the service aims to make help more accessible across the state.

The OGTN is the first standalone telehealth network in the US dedicated solely to problem gambling. It is run by clinicians with specialist training in gambling-related issues. The service provides counselling, self-help groups, educational materials, podcasts, and guides for individuals and their loved ones.

The launch comes as Ohio’s gambling industry continues to grow, with an estimated 1.8 million residents considered at-risk gamblers. The network’s arrival also aligns with National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, drawing attention to the mental health challenges faced by problem gamblers. These can include depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and suicidal thoughts. As part of the PGNO, the OGTN focuses on reaching those who cannot attend in-person treatment. The service is designed to remove barriers, ensuring support is available to anyone in need across the state.

The OGTN now provides a dedicated telehealth option for Ohio residents dealing with gambling-related harm. Its free services cover counselling, education, and peer support, addressing both personal struggles and the impact on families. The network’s launch highlights the state’s effort to meet rising demand as gambling becomes more widespread.
