NWGB boosts Marikana food security with gardening donations and gambling awareness
The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has taken part in the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, supporting local development in Marikana. During the event, the organisation donated gardening supplies and seeds to Ipeleng Home for All, an NGO working to improve food security in the area.
The initiative also included an educational session on responsible gambling, targeting issues like illegal betting and underage participation. Residents gathered at Braampie Sports Ground for the outreach activities.
The NWGB provided Ipeleng Home for All with a range of essential gardening tools to boost their food security efforts. The donation included a JoJo water tank, gardening nets, hosepipes, protective gear, sun hats, watering cans, wheelbarrows, shovels, spade forks, and vegetable seeds.
Alongside the donation, the NWGB led a community workshop at Braampie Sports Ground. Topics covered responsible gambling practices, the dangers of illegal betting, and measures to prevent underage gambling. This event forms part of a broader trend in North West Province. Between March 2024 and March 2026, twelve municipalities—including the City of Matlosana and Merafong Municipality—have partnered with local NGOs. These collaborations aim to support sustainable development projects across the region.
The NWGB's involvement in the Thuntsha Lerole programme has provided practical support to Ipeleng Home for All while raising awareness about gambling risks. The donated supplies will help the NGO expand its food security work in Marikana.
Similar partnerships have now spread to twelve municipalities in the province, reinforcing local efforts for sustainable growth.
