NOWEDA tests zero-emission Opel Vivaro-e for pharmaceutical deliveries
NOWEDA, a pharmaceutical logistics provider, has taken delivery of two Opel Vivaro-e transporters—one battery-electric and one hydrogen-powered. The vehicles will be tested for locally emission-free deliveries of temperature-sensitive medical products. The handover took place at NOWEDA's headquarters in Essen.
Andreas Kunkat, Head of Key Accounts at Stellantis Germany, officially presented the vehicles to NOWEDA. Both models were specially adapted by Opel alongside conversion specialists CSA ClimaVan Solutions Automotive and Fahrzeugbau Dülmer to meet Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards for pharmaceutical transport.
The battery-electric Vivaro-e offers a range of up to 328 kilometres with its larger battery, or 229 kilometres with the 50 kWh version. It provides up to 6.1 cubic metres of cargo space, ensuring ample room for medical shipments.
The Vivaro-e Hydrogen, equipped with a fuel cell system, extends the range further to over 400 kilometres on a full tank. Refuelling takes just three minutes, making it a practical option for long-distance logistics. Both transporters will now undergo real-world testing to prove their suitability for GDP-compliant deliveries.
As of early 2026, large-scale commercial use of hydrogen-powered vehicles for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical transport in Germany remains rare. While some pilot projects and feasibility studies have been carried out, no major established fleet operations in this niche have yet entered regular service.
The deployment of these vehicles marks a step toward emission-free pharmaceutical logistics. NOWEDA will assess their performance in daily operations, focusing on efficiency and compliance with GDP requirements. The results could influence future adoption of similar transport solutions in the industry.
