North West Gambling Board cracks down on illegal betting with new training push
Senior officials from the North West Gambling Board (NWGB) recently completed a three-day training session on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Held at Royal Aloe Lodge in Mahikeng, the workshops focused on strengthening regulatory practices and combating illegal gambling activities across the province.
The training formed part of NWGB's 'Back to Basics' initiative, run in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA). The programme aimed to deepen understanding of gambling laws among law enforcement and prosecutors, helping them tackle unlicensed operations more effectively.
Key sessions explored financial crime trends, including links between illegal betting, organised crime, and tax evasion. Participants also reviewed ways to refine internal processes, ensuring they align with legislative and policy demands. By standardising procedures, NWGB seeks to boost regulatory efficiency and maintain high governance standards.
The workshops reinforced the importance of SOPs as a framework for consistent, legally sound regulation. This internal capacity-building effort supports NWGB's broader strategy to enhance operational performance and uphold integrity in the province's gambling sector.
