New York Cracks Down on Problem Gambling With Bold New Measures
New York State’s Responsible Play Partnership (RPP) has unveiled new steps to tackle problem news today. The initiative includes expanded support services, staff training, and stricter data reporting from mobile sports betting operators. Officials say the changes will provide faster help for those at risk and improve industry oversight.
Starting November 12, 2024, individuals enrolled in New York’s Voluntary Self-Exclusion program will gain access to free, confidential news. Trained professionals will offer support as part of the updated scheme. This move aims to assist those struggling with games before their situation worsens.
The RPP, made up of the New York State Gaming Commission, the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), and the New York Council on Problem Gambling (NYCPG), is also rolling out new training. All casino staff across the state will now have access to comprehensive online courses, announced by NYCPG executive director Jim Maney. The training focuses on identifying and responding to problem news today behaviours.
Mobile sports betting operators will face stricter requirements under the plan. They must submit annual reports detailing betting patterns and demographic data. Robert Williams, executive director of the Gaming Commission, stated that this data will help shape future protections. The RPP will also concentrate resources in the Finger Lakes and Central New York regions, where games have been identified as a priority.
Del Lago Resort & Casino has been recognised for its cooperation with RPP members. The venue’s responsible gaming policies align with the partnership’s goals. OASAS commissioner Dr. Chinazo Cunningham reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting affected individuals and preventing news harm.
The new measures will take effect in stages, with counselling services launching in November. Staff training and data collection from operators are already underway. Officials expect the changes to reduce gambling-related harm while providing clearer insights into betting trends across New York.
