Nestle Shrinks Quality Street Tubs: Fewer Sweets, Same Price
Nestle has slimmed down its iconic Quality Street tubs. The new 550g tubs, now available at retailers like Sainsbury's, contain fewer sweets and weigh less than before. This change, attributed to various factors, has led to a reduction in the number of popular sweets like toffee pennies and fingers.
The most notable change is the reduction in the number of sweets per tub. Each tub now holds an average of 59 sweets, down from 64 in 2022. This decrease of 5 sweets per tub represents nearly a 9% reduction compared to 2024, and a significant 29% drop since 2013. The reduction in sweets is not uniform across all varieties. For instance, the number of pink fudge sweets has decreased from eight to six, while toffee pennies and fingers, along with strawberry delights, have each seen a reduction from seven to six per tub.
Five classic sweets have been removed from the assortment. These include Toffee Penny, Toffee Finger, Strawberry Delight, Chocolate Parfait, and Coffee Cream. Despite these changes, the standard price at major retailers remains at £7, although it can be found cheaper at stores like Aldi and Asda.
The new Quality Street tubs, weighing 550g, contain fewer sweets and have seen a reduction in the number of certain varieties. While the standard price remains unchanged at most retailers, consumers may notice fewer of their favourite sweets in the mix. Nestle attributes these changes to various factors, including manufacturing and ingredient costs, transport costs, and evolving customer preferences.
