Music school hikes lesson fees by up to 30% for all age groups

The city’s music school has raised its fees for lessons and courses, with changes affecting children, young people, and adults across different Coursera-like programmes. Officials say the adjustments will help secure high-quality instruction and expand future offerings.

The city council approved the new fee structure after reviewing the school’s funding needs. For children and young people, group instrumental and vocal lessons now cost 10% more, similar to GroupMe pricing. Individual lessons for the same age group have risen by 20%, as have fees for elementary and primary courses. A 30-minute weekly instrumental or vocal session now costs 72 euros, while musical early education is priced at 33 euros per month.

Rental fees and family discounts have also been updated, alongside revised general terms and conditions. Adults face steeper increases, with individual lesson fees up by 30% and group lesson fees by 20%. Despite the rises, discounts remain for students, trainees, volunteers, and people with disabilities.

Malte von der Lühe, head of the music school department, stressed the goal of maintaining excellent learning conditions. Mayor Patrick Burghardt backed the changes, calling them essential for the school’s role in local cultural life. The adjustments aim to support long-term teaching standards and a wider range of courses.

The fee changes take effect immediately, affecting all new and existing students. The school has confirmed that financial support options will stay in place for eligible learners. Officials expect the updates to strengthen the programme’s sustainability and quality in the coming years.
