Michigan's Online Gambling Industry Booms in July 2025

Michigan's online gambling industry continues to flourish, with July 2025 seeing a significant boost in revenue and taxes. The state's mobile sports betting handle grew by 13% year-over-year to $282.7 million, while adjusted gross receipts (AGR) from online gambling reached $259.1 million, a 36.7% increase from the previous year.

The growth in Michigan's online gambling market is evident across various sectors. Mobile sports betting AGR improved by 38.7% to $23.9 million. iGaming gross receipts totaled $250.5 million in July, with AGR of $235.2 million, marking a 36.5% annual increase. The overall online gambling market generated $284.6 million in July 2025, up 28.9% year-over-year.

Licensed operators contributed significantly to the state's coffers. They paid $50.5 million in state taxes in July. Tribal online gambling operators sent $6.1 million to their governing bodies, up 35.6% from the previous year. Additionally, Detroit's three commercial casinos paid $12.5 million in wagering taxes and municipal fees in July.

Despite the positive trends, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) took action against unlicensed operators. In August, it issued cease-and-desist orders to 15 unlicensed online gambling operators for violating state laws. This move underscores the state's commitment to regulating the industry and protecting consumers.
