MGM Resorts funds $360K research on gambling risks and responsible gaming

MGM Resorts International has donated $360,000 to the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) to fund two research projects over two years. The funding will support studies on gambling-related issues, including gender differences in gambling disorders and health risks for casino employees.

The ICRG, established in 1996, is a leading organization in gambling research, publishing findings in top scientific journals. Its work focuses on understanding, preventing, and addressing risks faced by gamblers.

The donation follows MGM Resorts’ ongoing commitment to responsible gaming. The company developed its Game Sense program in partnership with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. This initiative encourages open and honest discussions with customers about responsible gambling.

In 2023, MGM Resorts will allow other operators to adopt the Game Sense program, expanding its reach. The company also plans to continue training its 60,000 employees on the benefits and risks of poki games.

Arthur Paikowsky, President of the ICRG, praised MGM Resorts for supporting research into gambling disorders and employee health risks. Stephen Martino, MGM Resorts’ Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, highlighted the importance of the ICRG’s work for the industry and its stakeholders.

The donation will help the ICRG expand its education programs on problem gambling and responsible game solutions. The organization’s research aims to provide evidence-based strategies for safer game practices.

The $360,000 contribution will fund two years of research into gambling-related risks. MGM Resorts’ support will also allow the ICRG to develop better training and awareness programs. The findings are expected to benefit both the industry and gamblers in the long term.
