Main Cultural Events of 2025 in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has marked a year of cultural achievements on the world stage. From international festivals to new monuments, the country’s artistic influence has grown. Several major events in 2025 highlighted its rich heritage and global partnerships.

The year began with Nursultan Anuarbek’s selection for the Bolshoi Theatre’s Young Artists Program. His inclusion stood out as no other Kazakh artist was chosen for the prestigious scheme.

Around the same time, Astana Opera continued its international success, drawing sold-out audiences abroad. The troupe also earned praise at some of the world’s most respected venues. Meanwhile, Astana Ballet secured victories at the Cheonan World Dance Festival, with two of its dancers shortlisted for the Benoist de la Danse.

Cultural exchanges expanded as Kazakhstan hosted Vietnam’s Cultural Days within its borders. In return, Kazakh Cultural Days took place in Armenia and Russia. A new park named after Abai Kunanbayuly opened in Yerevan, strengthening ties between the two nations.

Monuments also played a key role in celebrating Kazakh heritage. A bust of Abai was unveiled in Rome, while Osh, Kyrgyzstan, inaugurated a street, monument, and museum dedicated to the poet. Another significant moment came when leaders from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan attended the unveiling of a joint monument to Mukhtar Auezov and Chingiz Aitmatov.

Back home, Aktau was named the 2025 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. The honour came as Nurgisa Tlendiyev’s legacy was recognised by UNESCO, with his commemorative dates added to the organisation’s official calendar. The year also saw the opening of the Kazakhstan Cultural Center in Beijing, a new hub for exhibitions, education, and outreach.

These developments reflect Kazakhstan’s growing presence in global arts and diplomacy. New monuments, festivals, and international collaborations have cemented its cultural reputation. The country’s artists and institutions now hold a stronger position on the world stage.
