Lower Saxony Demands Fairer EU Funding for Social Justice and Regional Growth

The Round Table 'Social Europe', an alliance advocating for a socially just and inclusive Europe, has assessed the European Commission's Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) proposals from a Lower Saxony perspective. Minister Melanie Walter emphasizes the importance of a socially balanced EU funding policy and strong regional involvement.

The assessment, led by the Round Table, warns against cuts in cohesion and social policy funding. Kerstin Tack of the Free Welfare Association calls for simplification, stronger practice orientation, and adequate funding of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+). Johann Janssen of the Lower Saxony Youth Council highlights the importance of the ESF+ for young people's education and social participation.

Dr. Mehrdad Payandeh of DGB Lower Saxony stresses the need for sufficient funds for a social Europe and regional know-how. The Round Table criticizes the planned allocation of funds via national partnership plans and reduction of ESF+ funds. It calls for the social dimension of EU funding to be strengthened and regional participation structures maintained.

The Round Table 'Social Europe' has presented its assessment of the European Commission's MFF proposals, emphasizing the need for increased funding for social programs and regional involvement. It continues to formulate Lower Saxony's interests, perspectives, and demands for a more social Europe at annual summits and working groups.
