Lower Manhattan's New Classroom Offers Stunning Views and Sustainable Design

A new community space called The Classroom has opened in Lower Manhattan's Wagner Park Pavilion. The 1,200-square-foot venue launched on 24 March 2023, offering flexible event space with views of the Statue of Liberty. It forms part of a wider effort to upgrade the park and protect the area from rising sea levels. The venue sits inside the newly renovated Wagner Park Pavilion, part of the $300 million redesign aimed at improving coastal resilience. Its floor-to-ceiling windows provide clear sightlines to the harbour and the Statue of Liberty, while the interior includes 90 chairs, 20 tables, and child-sized furniture. A built-in AV system features ceiling speakers, wireless microphones, a projection screen, and a 98-inch monitor.

Designed as a modular space, *The Classroom* can adapt to different events, from workshops to private gatherings. Reservations are now available on a first-come, first-served basis, with hourly rates starting at $250. The building also targets net-zero carbon certification by using geothermal energy, LED lighting, and recycled construction materials. The opening marks a key step in the broader $200 million Battery Coastal Resiliency Project, which aims to safeguard Lower Manhattan against flooding and climate risks.

Bookings for The Classroom are open to the public, with pricing and availability listed online. The space adds a modern, sustainable option for events in the area. Its completion also advances the long-term goal of making Wagner Park more resilient to environmental challenges.
