Los Angeles transforms into an art hub with Frieze L.A. and beyond
Los Angeles is gearing up for a busy art week at the end of February. Major fairs, gallery exhibitions, and special events will take over the city from February 23 to March 1. Frieze L.A. leads the schedule, with over 95 international galleries setting up at Santa Monica Airport from February 26 to March 1.
The week kicks off on February 23 with Hauser & Wirth's opening party. The gallery will celebrate new exhibitions by Christina Quarles and Eileen Harris Norton. Meanwhile, David Kordansky Gallery is showcasing works by Sam Gilliam and Lauren Halsey.
Before the fairs begin, the Silencio residency at the Edition hotel runs from February 24 to 26. Each night features a different host, including Whitewall Magazine, LACMA Avant-Garde, and Tom of Finland.
From February 26 to 28, Post-Fair returns to its Santa Monica venue. The event will highlight solo presentations from various galleries. The same dates see the debut of Butter Fine Art Fair, which focuses on established and emerging Black artists from L.A. All sales from the fair will go directly to the artists.
Felix Art Fair takes place at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel from February 26 to March 1. The fair brings together a global mix of galleries. Pace Gallery will also stage a new installation by James Turrell, never seen before.
At Frieze L.A., Karma's booth will display paintings by Ernie Barnes and Milton Avery. Hoffman Donahue is expanding its programme to spotlight Martine Syms. Superposition, part of the Focus section, will feature Greg Ito's work.
Participating galleries come from 22 countries, with strong representation from Los Angeles, New York, and London. Local names like Regen Projects and David Kordansky join international heavyweights such as Gagosian and Tanya Bonakdar Gallery.
The week wraps up on March 1 after days of exhibitions, installations, and special events. Frieze L.A. and its surrounding fairs will bring together artists, collectors, and galleries from around the world. The programme highlights both established names and rising talents across multiple venues in the city.
