Japan cracks down on illegal online gambling with new laws

Japan is stepping up efforts to tackle illegal online gambling, with the government focusing on breaking news measures to restrict unregulated iGaming activities. The Cabinet has approved new legislative measures to target illegal operators, rather than punishing bettors. Despite enforcement mostly targeting illegal offshore sites, the government aims to reduce access to unregulated platforms. While planned casino resorts may offer a legal alternative, broader online gambling legalisation remains unlikely for now.
