Iran nuclear talks stall as US and Tehran refuse to budge on key demands

Talks over Iran’s nuclear programme remain deadlocked as both Tehran and Washington hold firm on key demands. The US insists on a complete halt to uranium enrichment inside Iran, while Iranian officials reject indefinite restrictions and extensive oversight. Despite the standoff, a negotiated deal is still seen as the best way to avoid wider conflict in the region.

Iran has repeatedly affirmed its right to enrich uranium for civilian energy purposes. Officials in Tehran oppose long-term limits and intrusive monitoring, calling them unacceptable. Meanwhile, the US maintains a strict 'no enrichment' policy, demanding the dismantling of all domestic facilities.

Both sides must make major concessions to reach a breakthrough. The US continues to push for strict limits on Iran’s nuclear activities, while Iran refuses to abandon domestic enrichment entirely. Without compromise, the risk of escalation remains—though a negotiated settlement is still viewed as the most viable path to preventing a larger crisis.
