Indian Navy Frigate INS Trikand Strengthens Ties With Italy

INS Trikand, an Indian Navy stealth frigate, recently concluded a successful visit to Italy, strengthening ties between the two nations. The ship's stay in Taranto from September 28 marked a significant step in their growing defence cooperation and maritime partnership.

The visit began with a courtesy call by Captain Sachin Kulkarni, the frigate's commanding officer, on Rear Admiral Andrea Petroni, head of the Italian Navy's Second Naval Division. This meeting set the tone for professional exchanges and cross-deck visits throughout the stay.

INS Trikand's time in Italy followed its participation in Exercise Bright Star 2025 in Egypt, where it joined forces from India, Egypt, the USA, and other allied nations. The exercise, held from September 1 to 10, focused on enhancing interoperability in irregular warfare against hybrid threats. During the exercise, senior military officials held bilateral discussions to foster people-to-people ties between India and Egypt.

The Indian ship's Mediterranean deployment, which included the Italian port call, aimed to foster professional naval engagements and interoperability with partner maritime nations. This aligns with India's broader strategy to expand its maritime influence and cooperation in the region.

INS Trikand's visit to Italy underscored the importance of India's relations with Italy and their shared commitment to defence cooperation and maritime partnership. As the Indian Navy continues its deployments, such visits serve to strengthen ties with key international partners, promoting peace and stability in the Mediterranean and beyond.
