Harburg’s Three Kings’ Action unites for children and the Amazon in 2024
The 66th Three Kings’ Action will take place in Harburg on 6 and 7 January 2024. Under the motto ‘Together for our earth – in the Amazon and worldwide’, children will visit homes, businesses, and public buildings to collect donations. The event supports projects against child labour, including efforts in Bangladesh to replace factory work with schooling.
The tradition began in 1959 and has since grown into the world’s largest solidarity campaign. Over the decades, participants have raised around 1.31 billion euros for disadvantaged children globally. This year, the initiative is backed by Kindermissionswerk ‘Die Sternsinger’ and the Bund der Deutschen Katholischen Jugend (BDKJ).
In Harburg, the Three Kings will visit St. Maximilian Kolbe parish, the town hall, Rotary Club members, the local shooting guild, and Hotel Lindtner. They will mark doors with the chalk inscription ‘20+C+M+B+24’ and deliver the blessing ‘Christ bless this house’. Residents and organisations can still request a visit by completing a registration form before 31 December. The campaign also highlights environmental and social justice issues, with a focus on the Amazon region. In Cologne, the Erzbistum has emphasised projects like ‘Schule statt Fabrik’ (‘School instead of factory’), aiming to end child exploitation in Bangladesh.
The Three Kings’ Action continues to unite communities in support of vulnerable children. Donations collected in Harburg will fund education and welfare projects worldwide. Organisers encourage last-minute sign-ups to ensure as many homes as possible receive the blessing in the new year.
