Hamburg police bust illegal gambling den in St. Georg raid

Hamburg police raided a property in the St. Georg district late on March 26, 2026, uncovering what appeared to be an illegal gambling operation. Officers seized large amounts of cash, marijuana, and detained several individuals during the inspection near Stralsunder Straße. The operation began at 11:00 PM when plainclothes officers from Police Station 11 entered the premises. Inside, they found a poker table in active use and encountered 15 people. A judge had previously approved the search on suspicion of unauthorised gambling.

During the raid, authorities confiscated over 100 grams of marijuana and more than €8,000 in cash. Investigations were launched into potential breaches of cannabis laws, illegal gambling, and money laundering. Four men at the location were suspected of residing in Germany illegally. Separately, five others were arrested on construction sites in Bebra and Haunetal for similar immigration offences. Another individual was detained in Holzgünz for illegal entry and possession of forged documents. Following the operation, the Hamburg-Mitte district office banned further use of the premises and officially sealed the location.

The raid resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs and cash. Authorities have prohibited any further activity at the site while investigations continue. The case remains under review for possible violations of gambling, immigration, and drug laws.
